Hi Hytaler,
The Deepworks is the end of Chapter I: Hytale's first handcrafted dungeon, with the Feastmaster in the middle and the Gobliterator at the end. Here is everything the official notes say about it, plus what the Update 8 pre-release changes. Things the notes don't say (loot, boss stats, how many phases) I'm leaving open. No made-up numbers here.
Short answer: You do the Chapter I content first, then the Deepworks. Inside you get rooms with goblin hordes, fire and falling debris, puzzles and checkpoints. Mid-way is the Feastmaster, at the end the Gobliterator, Hytale's first big multi-phase boss. There's an optional button next to the boss door that makes it harder.
The official wording is that all of the Chapter I content and progression "culminates" in the Deepworks. So it's the last step, not something you walk into on day one.
Chapter I itself starts in the Forgotten Temple: explore the new Goblin Lab there to unlock the content. The Chapter screen shows your objectives. Along the way you use the Goblin Breach (a temporary portal that regenerates every time you go in) and you upgrade the Goblin Breach Console in the Goblin Lab for more time.
What the notes do not say: where exactly the Deepworks entrance is, and what you need to unlock it. If you know, post it below and I'll add it.
From the Chapter I notes:
So if you die, you don't start the whole thing again from the door. Activate the checkpoints.
The first boss. Elite goblin, and the notes warn he is "more nimble than he looks". Don't expect a slow tank.
Since the Update 8 pre-release the death screen also tells you when you died to the Feastmaster's vomit. So yes, that's an attack, keep moving.
The end boss and Hytale's first major multi-phase boss fight. The official advice is "make sure you are prepared before heading in. This won't be easy."
What I would bring, based on the rest of Chapter I (my own advice, not from the notes):
To the left of the boss chamber entrance there is an "ominous-looking button". The notes only say: if you really want a challenge, press it, "we warned you". What it actually changes isn't written anywhere. Try it on your second run, not the first.
From the pre-release notes from October 22. This is the pre-release branch, so not on normal servers yet:
Also in Update 8, not Deepworks but goblin stuff: the treasure chest in the Goblin Crypt treasure room now gives the right rewards, and a large goblin chest drops two small goblin chests when broken.
The notes don't list any server settings for the dungeon. Two things still matter:
Did you beat the Gobliterator yet? How many tries, and did anyone press the button? And if you know the loot, post it, that's the missing part of this guide.

1. How you get there
The official wording is that all of the Chapter I content and progression "culminates" in the Deepworks.
2. What's inside
From the Chapter I notes:
- winding rooms, each one with a new challenge
- hordes of goblins
- obstacles where you dodge flames and falling debris
- puzzles
- checkpoints you activate along the way
So if you die, you don't start the whole thing again from the door. Activate the checkpoints.
3. The Feastmaster
The first boss. Elite goblin, and the notes warn he is "more nimble than he looks". Don't expect a slow tank.
Since the Update 8 pre-release the death screen also tells you when you died to the Feastmaster's vomit. So yes, that's an attack, keep moving.
4. The Gobliterator
The end boss and Hytale's first major multi-phase boss fight. The official advice is "make sure you are prepared before heading in. This won't be easy."
What I would bring, based on the rest of Chapter I (my own advice, not from the notes):
- your best Runestone setup, see Runestones explained
- Rocket Boots for the double jump and a Goblin Repair Kit, see Goblin gadgets
- food and potions
5. The button next to the boss door
To the left of the boss chamber entrance there is an "ominous-looking button". The notes only say: if you really want a challenge, press it, "we warned you". What it actually changes isn't written anywhere. Try it on your second run, not the first.
What Update 8 (pre-release) changes in the Deepworks
From the pre-release notes from October 22. This is the pre-release branch, so not on normal servers yet:
- Some unintended paths are closed. If you know a shortcut, it's probably gone.
- A timed flame trap is now slightly more predictable, "but just as deadly".
- Fixed a bug where debug behavior could remove the way out at the end of the dungeon. If you got stuck after the boss, that was it.
- The Leave and Stay buttons inside were adjusted.
- New model and texture for "a mysterious entity" in the Deepworks.
- Merchants now restock even in worlds where time is paused, and the Deepworks is named as one of those worlds.
- Death screen now shows more causes, for example the Feastmaster's vomit.
Also in Update 8, not Deepworks but goblin stuff: the treasure chest in the Goblin Crypt treasure room now gives the right rewards, and a large goblin chest drops two small goblin chests when broken.
For server owners
The notes don't list any server settings for the dungeon. Two things still matter:
- Run at least 0.7.2. It fixes a world crash where an old Update 6 goblin spawn beacon in a cave chunk disconnected everyone.
- If you test Update 8 on a pre-release server, keep it separate from your main world. More on that: Update 7 for server owners and Backing up your world.
Did you beat the Gobliterator yet? How many tries, and did anyone press the button? And if you know the loot, post it, that's the missing part of this guide.
