Hi Hytaler,

there are a lot of command lists for Hytale out there, and many have commands in them that don't even exist (like /deop). So I checked every command here against the 0.7.2 server jar from my own server. If it's in this list, it's in the game.

How commands work

  • In the server console and in game chat you type them with a / in front
  • /help lists everything, /help <command> explains one command
  • add --help to any command to see its options, for example /whitelist --help
  • in game you need the permission for it. Commands use permission nodes like hytale.command.<name>

First thing: make yourself op

On a fresh server nobody is op. You have 2 options:

  • start the server once with --allow-op, join, and type /op self
  • or stop the server and add yourself in permissions.json

After that you can op others from the console:

Code:
/op add <player>
/op remove <player>

Watch out: permissions.json, whitelist.json and bans.json are read on start and rewritten by the server when you use the commands. If you edit them while the server runs, your changes get overwritten. So: stop server, edit, start. Or just use the commands.

Players: whitelist, kick, ban

Code:
/whitelist enable
/whitelist add <player>
/whitelist remove <player>
/whitelist list
/whitelist status

For a private server with friends: turn on the whitelist first, then add your people. That's the easiest protection you have.

Code:
/who who is online
/kick <player>
/ban <player> name or UUID
/unban <player>
/say <message> message to everyone
/maxplayers <number>

Permissions and groups

Code:
/perm group list <group>
/perm group add <group> <permission>
/perm user add <uuid> <permission>
/perm user group add <uuid> <group>
/perm test <permission>
/perm reload re-read permissions.json
/setgroup --help set a player's group (shows the exact syntax)

The /perm user commands want the UUID, not the name. The group names changed between builds, so check yours with /perm group list instead of copying names from an old guide.

Server: stop, save, backup, update

Code:
/version shows the server version
/stop
/world save --all
/backup
/update check
/update download
/update apply --confirm

/backup only works if you started the server with --backup-dir <folder>. For automatic backups add --backup --backup-frequency 30 (minutes). More about that in the backup guide, or use the backup script generator.

There is no /restart. Use /stop and let your start script or systemd start it again. /update apply also ends with a restart this way.

Auth (needed once on a fresh server, details in the setup guide):

Code:
/auth login device
/auth status
/auth persistence

Without persistence you have to log in again after every restart, so set it up once.

Performance

Code:
/world perf TPS of the world
/maxviewradius show or set the max view radius (chunks)

The view radius is the biggest RAM and CPU factor. On my server it's at 32 and that costs a lot of memory, see the RAM guide and the performance guide.

In game: gamemode, teleport, items, time

Code:
/gamemode creative or adventure, short: /gm c and /gm a
/gamemode adventure <player>
/tp <player>
/spawn
/give <item> <amount>
/time set <0-24> hour of the day, /time --help shows shortcuts like day and night
/weather set <weather>
/weather reset

There is also voice chat control, with /voice status, /voice mute <player> and /voice unmute <player>.

Plugins

Code:
/plugin list
/plugin reload <plugin>

How mods and plugins work in general is in How Hytale modding works.

The list will change with the next updates. If a command doesn't work on your server or you found a useful one I missed, post it below and I'll add it.
